Chief Executive Officer

Sam Mahmood

Sam Mahmood was born in San Diego, California, and played competitive soccer for over 21 years, earning a Division I athletic scholarship to the University of South Carolina before completing his collegiate career and degree in Global Supply Chain and Business Strategy at Vanguard University in Southern California.

Following graduation, Sam began his professional career in medical device sales, where his entrepreneurial drive soon led him to establish his own medical device distribution company. By the age of 28, he had scaled the
business across multiple states, using its cash flows to vertically integrate into manufacturing surgical instruments and implants. Today, the company’s products are manufactured in Germany and distributed throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada under the brand Surgical Republic.

Sam has developed extensive expertise in B2B Sales and Digital Marketing building nationwide distribution networks that blend direct sales and independent contractor models.

In addition to his operating experience, Sam served on the Acuventures team, a lower-middle-market medical device platform with a dedicated M&A division, where he evaluated and supported acquisitions of orthopedic extremity device companies for Acumed, one of the sector’s leading strategic consolidators.

Sam is a Co-Founder and visionary of The Pave.

Chief Investment Officer

Chris Wirthlin

Chris is an entrepreneur that has a passion for acquiring and growing business. He began his career before college by acquiring, turning around, and selling a distressed tuxedo and formal wear business.

While earning a degree in East Asian Studies with a focus on Business Japanese from the University of Utah, Chris founded and sold a SaaS company that provided solutions for software development teams to a strategic buyer. After the sale, he joined the strategic buyers team and led product development, engineering and operations.

In parallel, he architected an investment model that traded software development capacity for equity in early stage startups. He also invested in multiple small home services businesses, including sprinkler repair,
landscaping, lawn care and residential general contracting.

His expertise in entrepreneurship led him to a family office that had deployed over $30 million into a start-up that had failed to generate revenue. Chris was tasked with leading the turnaround by identifying adjacent, low barrier to entry markets, re-developing the product and creating/executing the GTM strategy.

Building on this foundation, Chris founded his own holding company with a thesis of infusing technology into “dusty” lower-middle-market real estate and construction businesses.

He architected and executed more than 100 real estate syndications and acquired or invested in multiple construction and technology companies, gaining deep expertise in both finance and operations.

Chris is a Co-Founder and architect of The Pave.
